Focusing is a way of getting better acquainted with yourself and allowing inner transformation to occur. It is a skill of inner listening, bringing your awareness inside to have a “conversation” with those places inside you that may not often get heard.

Focusing is a body-centered process that can be used to bring clarity to all the life issues you face. It gives you access to a deep level of knowing, leading to inner transformation that can be felt immediately. Focusing can assist in moving through transitions you may be experiencing and help you in making the right choices for you.

What we're doing is giving you a way to find out what's going on beneath the surface of your conscious awareness. Focusing allows you to let go of the mental process and enter the body to see what's there. It will assist you in identifying those feelings and emotions that have been pushed down and not given the opportunity to speak. Focusing will give a voice to those buried feelings and emotions. In this way, you can get to the heart of a situation, bring clarity to the issue at hand, and so find resolution. It is about being with what is present within you with compassion and non-judgment. It is like keeping company with something within you, like listening to something inside you that wants to communicate with you.

As the Focusing Facilitator, I am here to listen and follow you on your inner journey. I am here to offer you back more of your experience, by guiding you through the unexplored parts of your inner self, helping you to clarify what you are sensing, assisting you in listening to whatever it is inside you that is wanting to be heard.

Focusing was developed by psychotherapist Eugene Gendlin out of his research into why psychotherapy worked for some patients and not for others. His first published papers about the process of Focusing appeared in the early 1960s. Gendlin recognized that those patients who benefited most from therapy were the ones able to connect to that "something" inside of them, the emotion or feeling that has not been listened to. Those people who were not successful with therapy were not able to get beyond the "story", the drama, the experience itself.

Focusing can help you to:

  • transform the self-critic into a powerful ally
  • access and support the positive and creative life energy within you
  • get clarity on those vague, hard-to-describe inner emotions
  • be more in touch with yourself, be present to your life as it is felt right now
  • attune to feelings just as they are
  • trust the wisdom of your own experiences
  • learn how to be with your own sensations and feelings
  • discover that your feelings have something to communicate to you
  • resolve issues and move forward with your life
  • build a more nurturing inner relationship with yourself
  • recognize where you feel blocked or stuck in accomplishing your goals

Focusing Session ($70/session)
During a focusing session, you will be guided through the unexplored parts of your inner self. Learn to listen to your body and your emotions, release old patterns and behaviors, and free yourself to create a happier life. A Focusing session lasts approximately 40 minutes.

Gina offers sessions every Wednesday and Friday at Crystal Way Metaphysical Center, 2335 Market Street, San Francisco on a walk-in or appointment basis.
